NC ATA
Delegate’s NEWSLETTER Terry L. Roush, ATA Delegate (336)

I hope everyone enjoyed Thanksgiving and is
ready for Christmas. Jackie and I put
lots of miles on the motorhome and Jeep again in 2011 traveling to shoots in NC
and other Southern Zone states including the Southern Zone telephonic in
Bostic. We also attended three
Satellite Grands plus another trip to the ATA Homegrounds
at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta, IL for the Grand
American. I think this was the best
Grand we have had at Sparta. The weather
was great and there were activities provided on several evenings. It was enjoyable.
Improvements are continuing to be made at our
NC Homegrounds in Bostic and it is really a great facility. The building is
perfect for tournaments and has been used several times for shooting related
banquets and it has worked out well.
Plan a trip over to shoot the Dogwood Open next spring and take a look.
Congratulations to the State Team Members,
the High Average Leaders and everyone that competed and achieved a personal
goal. Also congratulations to Bill Howe who, once again, shot the most
registered targets during the target year.
Bill shot 24,800 registered targets in 2011 beating his total for 2010
by a few hundred. This year there was a decrease in the number of shooters who
shot 10,000 or more registered targets.
Eleven NC shooters became members of this year’s “10,000 Club”. Shooter score statistics included in this
newsletter are also on the NCTA web-site www.nctrap.com.
The State Team points system still seems to
be popular and
Two NC shooters deserve hearty congratulations
for being selected to the ATA All American teams based on their 2011
performance. Addison Callan ended up in
8th place on the Sub-Junior First Team with 851 points. Charlie Brown was 2nd place on the
Senior Vet First Team with 1443 points.
My thanks and congratulations to the
North Carolina gun club managers and shooters for another good year.
In state, we threw over 669,000 targets during the 2011 target year. We were down about 75,000 from last
year. That number is not too bad with
all of the business downturns plus fuel, ammo and other cost increases. Also, I want to congratulate Buckhorn GC, Old
Hickory R&PC and Rockingham County GC as the top three clubs this year,
based on registered targets thrown.
Recognition goes to the NCTA and HOF BOD
members for their leadership and hard work. They planned at least 5 major
shoots at the NC Homegrounds for 2011.
Billy Thigpen is doing an outstanding job as NCTA President as is Bob
Keever as the NCTHOF president. Thanks also to all the volunteers that help
make the Homegrounds shoots successful.
Please remember that donations to the North Carolina Trapshooters Hall
of Fame, Inc. are tax deductible. If you are looking for another charity for a
tax deduction this year, the NCTHOF will certainly put your money to good
use. Donations can be sent to: NCTHOF,
%Ken Duncan,
Don’t forget to explore www.tarheeltrap.com from time to time. Freddy Redmon, who maintains
the TarHeel web site, does a great job with shoot
dates, winner’s lists, information, pictures and the trap shooting chat
room.
In closing, Jackie and I would like to wish
you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah and Happy New Year.
We hope 2012 will be a great year for everyone.
It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve as your ATA Delegate this
year. Please contact me if you have questions or need assistance.
